A trimmer that is ideal for someone wanting to keep regular upkeep of a stubble look to that of a short beard. The QT4013/23 is featured as part of the Series 3000 range that’s ideal for those looking for who are up on the go. It offers a wide range of trimming lengths, so you can pretty much precisely get the length of trim you are after to suit your style (particularly good for those who like to fade their beards). To sum, this trimmer is widely recognised as being a great tool to have in your beard grooming kit.
Philips QT4013/23 Series 3000 Beard Trimmer - Full Review
Before testing this trimmer thoroughly out myself, we gave a few models to close family and friends who also sport some good fair facial hair (the mother in-law included) to give a try and let me know how it goes in a report. Well, some of the “plus points” my Uncle came back to me with may have very well left me with some deep scars, but hey... least you know it's versatile. In all seriousness though, there are quite a few things to like about the Philips QT4013/23, so many in fact that it has happened to become my personal trimmer.
What you will get inside is the trimmer itself, several instructional guides on recommended use, a nice little travel bag with cleaning brush and the 13 amp plug top charger.
Design & Ergonomics
Well you can see right from the off with the given pictures above and even more so when you actually get hold of it, this is actually a pretty good looking matte finish beard trimmer -- at the least, it certainly looks the part. With a combination of sleek curve edged to provide for ergonomic design as well as a featured grip, it means trimming your beard -- even in the more difficult areas -- is pretty easy to get into and get trimmed.
Once you grab hold of it, you will notice that it is actually pretty light, a fair bit lighter than most other standard sized beard trimmers I’ve tested that’s for sure. Certainly a positive in this regard,
Just carrying on slightly from the design you will have also noticed the “thumb” length setting dial at the centre of the trimmer, this will give you a range of twenty different “lock in settings” that vary from 0.5 mm to 10mm, of course each level (e.g. 1 - 0.5 mm, 2 - 1.0 mm) work in half a millimetre increments. This is an obvious advantage over a lot of beard trimmers that you have to keep messing about with, removing and fitting beard combs with. Of course with it being a max of 10 mm though, it is suited to those with the shorter beard to a stubble (if you are looking for longer an MB320c might be more suited).
With regards to “how well it trims” with its titanium blades it does a good job in fairness for my stubble-beard anyway, I would imagine if my beard got thicker or denser then it might cause some issues. Since I’ve had it though, I’m pleasantly surprised at how it has maintained this level of cutting -- I do look after it quite well mind.
Philips do specify that they specifically ensure that the blades are made to be “extra sharp” with “rounded blade tips & combs” as to reduce irritation and keep it to an absolute minimum, well they seem to do the job rather nicely.
This is probably the major advantage that comes with this trimmer and I must say it is pretty convenient. Firstly, it is has an integrated rechargeable battery, which is an advantage all by itself, compared to other ones, where half your time is spent rooting around trying to find them. The best thing though is that it allows you to charge up the trimmer fully within just an hour time and you will get the exact same in contiguous usage (well here or there abouts). A 60:60 ratio essentially.
Of course if you do forget to charge up the trimmer and you have a date that night with a beard that is need of a trim up, you can also use it corded as well. Either way, this beard trimmer really does have you covered in this respect and I don’t think many beard trimmers get even close to this.
Like we always say, looking after your trimmer will ensure you get a consistent and good overall trim in general. The advantage with this trimmer is that you can actually use the your bathroom tap to rinse it. Literally just remove the head comb of the trimmer, then let the tap run and place the trimmer under it for a super simple clean. Of course give it a good dry before fitting the comb back on and remember you can use that cleaning brush for any difficult hairs.
Overall QT4013/23 Review & Verdict
I do like this trimmer, I really do. It offers everything you want from a simple little beard tool. The only thing that really lacks is the variation of the length mm, I know 10mm just isn’t long enough for some beard growers (my younger self included). For those, maintaining that three day stubble look or a short beard, then you certainly can’t go far wrong with the QT4013/23.
